Why rely on a paper letter which may take days to arrive home? Receive all your messages from school by email and SMS directly to your inbox or phone. Make sure that the school have your up to date contact details.

Schoolcomms has been designed to take advantage of the widespread use of mobile phones and email to provide parents and other members of the school community with a choice about how they receive their communications.

The more parents who opt for email communications, the more money the school can save on paper, photocopying and distribution costs.

In a typical secondary school, these savings could add up to the cost of an extra teacher's salary!

FAQ for Parents

Schools can choose to do one of the following:

  • Use the contact details that they hold in their database.
  • Invite parents to register their details through the web site.

Your school will advise you of the route that they have chosen.

How will the emails get to me and what will they look like?

The emails will arrive in your inbox at your email address just like any other email and will have the name of your child’s school in the ‘From’ box.

Will I get any advertising or spam?

No, the contact details are not shared with anyone except the administrator in your child’s school. You will only receive messages from Schoolcomms that have been sent by your school.

What if I change my email address or mobile phone number?

If you registered through the web site, use the username and password that you chose to log in. Then you can change any of your details or your preferences. If your school used your details from their database, then please contact the school and inform them of any changes to your contact details

Do I have to register separately for each child?

If your school have taken your details from their database, you don’t need to do anything. They will know who is the contact for each child. If you have been invited to register, you will receive an introductory letter from your school for each child. When you have registered for your first child you will be taken to a confirmation screen. Click on the ‘Add school member’ button and you can enter the security number and password for your next child and link them to you. Or you can log in later with your username and password as an existing user and then click on the ‘Add school member’ button.

I have registered but don’t seem to be getting any messages?

Look in your junk folder. Some email providers put Schoolcomms mail there. You can flag Schoolcomms mail as not junk, or as trusted. If you web registered, check that you have entered your contact details correctly. It is easy to make a mistake when typing in an email address! Please check that the school have your correct email address on the data collection sheet.

I’ve forgotten my username or password and can’t change my preferences

If you know your username, log in with that username and ask for a new password. It will be sent to your email address. If you can’t remember your username either, contact the school and they will be able to give the username to you.

Can I reply to emails or texts?

For emails, click on the ’Reply’ button and send your message. Alternatively your email from school may give a specific address to reply to in the body of the message. For text messages click on reply and send your message. You may wish to save the SMS reply number in your mobile phone contacts list. You will only be charged your normal SMS message cost or it may be included in your free bundle.

NB: you can only reply to the school from the email address or mobile number that is linked to the school. This helps prevent spam and nuisance messages.

I don’t have email but would like to be registered for text messaging. How do I register?

Return the letter to the school office with your mobile phone number and name on it. They can link you for text messaging only. If the school already has your mobile details in their database, they can read these directly and link you for text messaging.

I don’t want to get electronic communications.

Contact the school and ask them to flag your name as opted out. Then you will only receive paper messages.
